Hold

The time between a conversion and its payout, while the advertiser checks the lead: days for cash-on-delivery approval, up to a month or more for deposits, chargebacks and returns. Money on hold is not money yet.

Also called: holding period, pending.

Hold has two meanings. On a lead, it is the pending state before approval or rejection. On an account, it is the network's payment delay: leads approved this week are paid after 14 or 30 days, once the advertiser has paid the network and any fraud checks are done.

Hold is cash flow. A campaign that spends daily and gets paid monthly needs a bank roll to bridge the gap; a network that shortens hold for good affiliates is worth a lower payout.
