Upsell

An extra product or a bigger package offered after the customer has decided to buy: a second bottle, a longer course, an accessory. The call center's upsell raises the order value and the advertiser's margin.

Also called: up-sale, cross-sell.

In cash-on-delivery offers the upsell happens on the confirmation call: the operator confirms the order and offers a discount on a larger pack or a related product. Advertisers plan the economics of an offer around it, which is one reason the base product can be priced so low.

For the affiliate the upsell matters when the payout depends on it: some offers pay a fixed rate per approved order, others a share of the final order value.
