About Outbrain Direct Response
Outbrain Direct Response is the performance side of Outbrain, now a subsidiary of Teads; the site's footer is Outbrain Inc. and names Teads as the trademark holder. The company has worked in performance advertising on the open internet for close to two decades and states eight offices and 17 languages of support. Inventory comes from code-on-page integrations with about 10,000 media partners, and the site claims around 1 billion exclusive daily impressions.
Buyers can work directly in the self-serve Outbrain Amplify platform or programmatically through the DSP of their choice, including Outbrain's own native DSP. Amplify has conversion bid strategies that optimise towards conversions, CPA or ROAS, lookalike audiences, interest targeting, retargeting and first- and third-party data targeting; programmatic buying adds curated deal packages, publisher allowlists and blocklists and third-party verification. Campaigns are run from the platform dashboard with real-time reporting and an assigned account manager.
The formats documented in the ad specs are standard native, clip (GIF or MP4 up to 15 seconds), app install, carousel, pre-roll and outstream video, high-impact display and banner; a standard native image is 1200x800 px with a title of up to 100 characters. The company also runs a referral programme and a partners programme for agencies, and the publisher side is handled by the media owners unit of Teads.

So many scams published as ads with no easy way to even report them. If published on Outbrain just avoid.

Scams and lies Scams and lies. Every link I see coming from Outbrain is either a scam or a lie. Products which are fraudulent. News items which are untrue.

Scammer's platform of choice. If you want to scam and be scammed, use Outbrain. They don't give a crap either way, provided somebody sends them money.

Unprofessional and unsupportive I used Outbrain in 2019–2020 and, while it wasn't the strongest platform for lead generation, the campaigns performed reasonably and the account support was helpful. For that reason, I decided to try it again in 2025 with my new company — unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. Initially, the team was responsive while setting up the account and campaign, and we were reassured that our test budget would be suitable and the expected results feasible. However, once the campaign launched, the daily budget was spent in less than two hours. When we raised questions to understand what had happened — particularly why spend appeared on US placements when the account was meant to target the UK — the support we received was unhelpful. Our contact changed several times within a few weeks, and during a call with Chris Weare (Head of Account Management at Teads) we were told our budget was too small to justify further support, despite this not being raised earlier. The tone of the conversation was dismissive and not professional. A few months later we attempted to use Outbrain again but encountered a technical issue. We were advised to contact support, but after several weeks we have still not received a response. Overall, the lack of support and communication has made the experience very frustrating.

Absolutely unnecessary service Absolutely unnecessary service. Generates simplest advertisements that wastes Websites and CO2.

Worse experience Worse experience, They are bigger thieves and scammers that ripped me out of my entire life savings. They always want me to pay more to be able to withdraw money. I have been forced to send money for consecutives orders and then they will give money back after completing all orders but nothing is returned back. Every time I try to withdraw money, there is an excuse why I can't.

Fake/scam ads promoted by Outbrain I tend to ignore most of the unsolicited ads I get from Outbrain on my Radio Times TV programme guide. However, I recently (from about 10th Dec 2024) have been plagued with scam ads for Bitcoin, apparently endorsed by Martin Lewis! There seems to be no way to report a scam ad back to Outbrain and they don't seem to care.

Outbrain should be reclassified as a virus Outbrain have infested every news app I have come across, typified by clickbait pictures offering amazing solutions/products which ultimately end in disappointment. This company should be fined/banned for wasting peoples time and misleading people's expectations. It simply can't a way forward as a business model, because it's so annoying and disappointing in equal amounts.

Thieves Initially, they sent fake bot traffic, which cost me over $500. When I decided to permanently close my account, they did not even inquire about my reasons, seemingly aware of their misconduct. A month later, they charged my card $55 without any justification. I intend to dispute this charge to recover my funds. Their practices are deceitful and unethical. I will seek legal advice to take appropriate action against Outbrain and ensure they are held accountable.
