Tracking domain

The domain your tracking links run on: the network's own click domain, or a domain you connect to your tracker. Its reputation decides whether clicks get through, so treat it as a consumable and keep a spare ready.

Also called: custom tracking domain, tracker domain, click domain, redirect domain.

Networks run click domains shared by all their affiliates, and some let you park your own. In a self-hosted tracker you point a domain's DNS at your server, add it in the settings and issue an SSL certificate. Keitaro's entry plan includes a single domain, while Binom v2 comes with unlimited domains, which matters once you start replacing them.

A domain dies in several ways: a browser's safe-browsing warning, a phishing flag, a filter list, an ad platform that stops accepting it, or a network retiring its own click domain and asking you to update your links. Binom's documentation suggests extra domains for the case of a domain banned by Google for phishing. Connect the spare, with SSL, before you need it: setting it up during an outage costs the traffic that arrives meanwhile.
