Teaser

A small image with a provocative headline, built to make the reader curious rather than to show the product. The unit of teaser and native networks: cheap clicks, bold creatives, an advertorial behind them.

Also called: teaser ad.

A teaser does not sell; it stops the scroll. A strange picture, a headline that withholds the point, a promise of a reveal. The pre-lander then sells. Teasers are the cheapest clicks on the market and the loosest in what they allow, which is why shock and curiosity angles started there.

Teaser networks are the CIS and Tier-3 branch of the format; native networks are the same format with stricter rules and Tier-1 publishers.

Related terms: Teaser network, Native advertising, Creative, Pre-lander.
